With a payday loan, plan the full payment, not just the cash you receive.

The cash is only step one. Plan the full payment. Illustrative example. Not a loan offer.

Three hundred dollars plus a forty-five dollar fee means three hundred forty-five due in fourteen days.

$300 becomes $345. A $45 charge over 14 days. Illustrative APR391.07%; not a 14-day percentage charge.

Check whether your income arrives before the payment is due.

Put dates next to income. The due date matters. Illustrative example. Not a loan offer. Cash received: Day 1; Repayment: Day 14.

Twelve hundred income, nine hundred essentials, and that payment leave a forty-five dollar shortfall.

Does repayment leave a gap? Protect essential expenses. Simplified budget only; not an affordability assessment. Income: $1,200; Essentials: − $900; Repayment: − $345; Cash left: − $45.

Compare alternatives before committing to a shortfall. LendingClub isn't a lender.

Pause if the budget fails. Check other ways to cover the bill. Availability and terms differ by provider.

A short borrowing period does not make a loan a small commitment. With a typical payday loan, the borrowed amount and charge may fall due together. The useful starting point is the complete repayment and the money left for other expenses afterward. 1

Use this page to compare that structure. For an actual offer, verify the provider, state rules and agreement separately. The personal-loan ceiling elsewhere on LendingClub does not apply to payday borrowing.

Start with the whole amount due

Suppose you receive $300 and agree to a $45 charge. You would need $345 at repayment—not $300. Over a hypothetical 14-day period, the simple annualized cost is about 391.07%. The charge and period are assumptions, not terms offered here. 2

Now put that $345 next to the money available on the repayment date. If you expect $900 and need $650 for rent, food, transport and other obligations, only $250 remains. The scenario has a $95 gap even though the original loan was only $300. This is arithmetic based on your entries, not underwriting or a legal affordability determination.

What belongs in a payday comparison?

Item Record this number or fact Why it changes the decision
Cash received Net money made available A withheld charge can change what covers the bill
Total charge Charges included in the transaction A small fee still needs to be repaid
Due date Actual agreement date “Next payday” is not a substitute for the contract
Total due Principal repayment plus applicable charge This is the amount to compare with the budget
Payment method Check, authorized withdrawal or other accepted method Confirm how the payment is initiated
Provider Legal name and verified contact The website and actual creditor may be different

Save or print the comparison without supplying identity documents. Do not enter a guessed fee as though it were a quote.

Check the state before choosing an amount

A provider may offer payday loans in one state and a different product—or no product—in another. State rules can affect the amount, fees, term and repayment arrangements. Separately, the provider must actually support the state and request. 1 3

California illustrates why labels matter: its deferred-deposit check limit and the cash received are different numbers. A $300 check with a $45 fee leaves $255 in proceeds. Read the California explanation rather than assuming the national $300 illustration applies unchanged. California statutory sources

Online convenience does not answer who receives your information

Before completing an online form, identify whether the operator is the lender, a broker or a lead generator. A form can transmit information to another business; the first website you visit is not necessarily the company making the credit decision. 3

Read the recipient and privacy disclosures at the point where data is requested. An estimate should not require a bank password or complete Social Security number. The service-role page and privacy notice have different jobs: one identifies responsibility, the other describes data handling.

Prepare for the actual eligibility check

A provider may require evidence of age, identity, income and an eligible account. Acceptable documents and income sources are product-specific. A broad checklist is not evidence that every applicant with those documents qualifies. 4

Ask when a credit inquiry occurs and what kind it is. Do not treat “online,” “bad credit considered” or “fast decision” as a statement that no checks will occur. The requirements page separates documentation, credit inquiries and provider verification.

A request, a decision and funding are separate

The sequence can include information review, identity verification, the credit decision, agreement acceptance, transfer initiation and bank availability. An approval message is not the same as money available to pay a bill.

For an urgent expense, confirm the latest point at which the actual provider can accept documents and still meet its stated timing. If that timing is unverified, do not promise the money to someone else. Use the expense-gap planner to compare the deadline with alternatives.

Read the repayment rules while you still have a choice

Check whether the agreement authorizes an automatic debit, what amount and date it covers, and how to contact the creditor before a problem develops. A failed payment can have different consequences under the agreement and state law; do not assume one national fee schedule. 1

Where an extension or payment plan is permitted, ask what happens to principal, fees and future dates. Paying a renewal charge may leave the original amount unpaid. The repayment page is the route for that decision—not another loan application. 2

When a different route addresses the same expense

Ask the biller about a due-date change or installment arrangement. Check an employer, bank, credit union or assistance program for an eligible lower-cost option. Compare actual eligibility, cost and timing rather than assuming any alternative is automatically available. 1

A loan does not solve a recurring shortfall if its repayment creates the next shortfall. A negative result in the repayment-date calculation should lead to revisiting the expense or seeking payment help, not an automatic invitation to borrow more.

Questions about online payday loans

Does the due date always equal my next payday? The actual agreement controls. Read the stated date and payment method instead of relying on the category name.

Is $35,000 available as a payday loan here? No such claim is made. The personal-loan calculator ceiling is separate from payday amounts and state rules.

Can I calculate the cost before applying? Yes. Use a documented charge or a clearly labeled example. A calculation does not establish a provider’s price or your eligibility.

Does paying an extension fee reduce the loan balance? Not necessarily. Ask for a written breakdown of principal, charges and remaining balance before accepting any permitted arrangement.

Who handles an existing loan? The lender or servicer named in the agreement. Use independently verified contact information.

Put the repayment into your calendar

Once you know the complete amount due, test whether the income arrives before the debit. If the payment leaves a gap, explore a written payment arrangement before adding another debt.

Some federal credit unions offer Payday Alternative Loans. Membership, eligibility and availability still need checking with the specific credit union.5
