A state rule and a live loan option are two separate checks

Check the product, your state and the actual provider separately. Understand verified, unavailable and unconfirmed coverage before sharing information.

LendingClub provides independent decision support and planning tools. We are not a lender and do not make credit decisions.

A state rule does not confirm a live offer.

Check the product, applicable state rule, provider legal name and current coverage as separate steps before sending a request.

Check the provider

A product's state rules don't confirm that a particular provider serves you.

A rule is not an offer. Separate permission from availability. A verification process; no coverage or approval claim.

First, identify the product and the state involved.

Identify the exact product. Different arrangements need different checks. Do not apply one product rule to another product.

Then match the provider's legal company name against the relevant official regulator record.

Verify the company name. Use the official regulator record. A brand name alone does not identify the legal provider.

Confirm current coverage, the requested amount, and the actual terms with that provider.

Ask about current coverage. Rules and live availability can differ. Verify directly; a directory listing does not prove a current offer.

Keep those checks separate before sending information. LendingClub isn't a lender.

Keep the checks separate. Proceed only with clear information. General decision support; not legal advice.

Where you live can change which products, amounts and terms a provider can offer. But a rule allowing a product does not mean this website has a provider offering it to you. Both the rule and actual coverage need checking. 1 5

Choose the state where you reside, then identify the product and provider. Do not treat a state in a menu as approval or availability.

What the status should tell you

Status Meaning What to do next
Verified for the stated product Current provider coverage and applicable review are recorded Read the named provider’s conditions; eligibility remains separate
Not available through the identified provider The provider does not support that path Do not submit a request through that route
Not verified The necessary evidence is missing or out of date Verify before proceeding; this is not a positive result

No confirmed provider coverage schedule is represented by this editorial page. California information below describes rules, not a live lending offer.

The product must match the rule

A payday loan, personal installment loan, line of credit, credit-card advance and wage-related arrangement are not interchangeable just because each can provide money. A legal limit for one category should not be displayed as the limit for all borrowing. 1

Record the actual product name and legal creditor before comparing state details. If a provider offers different products in different states, check which agreement applies to your state before entering information.

California: distinguish the check from the cash

Under the California deferred-deposit provisions cited here, the face amount of the check may not exceed $300, and the charge may not exceed 15% of that face amount. At the maximum charge, $45 is withheld and the cash received is $255. The term may not exceed 31 days. 2 3

These figures do not establish that LendingClub or a particular provider is licensed or offering the product. They also do not set the maximum for every California personal loan.

Check the company behind the offer

Use the actual creditor’s legal name, license or registration information where applicable, and the regulator responsible for that product. A name in an online directory or a similar-looking domain is not enough. Check status, scope and any discrepancy with the name on the agreement. 5

The verification guide explains how to check a provider. Check the website operator’s role separately from the actual credit provider’s authorization, using the licensing guide. One company’s license does not establish another company’s authority.

Why the requested amount matters

A provider may support a product in a state but not the amount, term or repayment method you selected. A $35,000 personal-loan calculation is not confirmation that the amount is offered in your state.

Check net proceeds as well as principal. A state limit stated as a check or transaction amount cannot safely be compared with a calculator field labeled cash received unless the fee treatment is reconciled.

When the information changes

Availability can change with provider participation, product changes or legal developments. Use a record that names its source and review date. A generic “updated today” label does not prove that the provider terms were checked.

If a record has expired or conflicts with an offer, pause the request and verify. Keeping an old positive status while replacing the source is not a reliable customer experience.

Information to gather before proceeding

Write down the state, actual provider, product, requested amount, net proceeds, repayment structure and source of the terms. Add the license record where relevant. Leave an item unconfirmed when it cannot be verified instead of copying a competitor’s number.

If no option is supported, use the expense planner to investigate a bill arrangement or another source. The absence of coverage should not automatically send your information to an undisclosed alternative provider.

State-availability questions

Does listing my state mean loans are offered there? No. A selector or legal guide is not a provider coverage record.

Can a California payday example be used nationwide? No. It describes a specific legal framework and cannot be generalized to other products or states.

Does “not verified” mean prohibited? No. It means the evidence for that route is insufficient. Prohibition and lack of verification are different conclusions.

What if I recently moved? Use accurate residence information and ask the actual provider which rules and documentation apply. Do not select another state to obtain a different result.

Where can I challenge incorrect information? Use the contact page and include the page, product, state and relevant source without sending account credentials.

Find the authority before choosing a provider

Use the CSBS directory as a starting point, then confirm which agency handles the exact nonbank loan product. A bank regulator and a payday lender’s licensing authority are not always the same.
